Why Mezcal?

Over the course of 10 years spent living in Mexico, I immersed myself into the culture of the country and along my travels, I kept finding myself sitting at the bar of Mezcalaria eager to taste the libations on offer.

Each place I visited exposed my pallet to different flavours and feelings. I began to understand that this was more than a spirit to many Mexicans but respected as a delicacy with deep cultural significance which I found woven into every bottle.

Driven by the mystery behind it, I began to research its origins, production methods, and cultural significance. In my findings I discovered a captivating world, steeped in a rich history with indigenous roots. I was fascinated by the complexities of mezcal’s craftsmanship and how the diversity of the agave plant is harnessed by the producers.

While my brother Harry was visiting me, I was able to share the mystical world of mezcal with him. From there an idea was born. We would bridge the gap for Australians in providing them access to the more deserving, less commercial products.

The products we are offering at The Friendly Mexican are a collection of products that have been carefully curated over many years and will connect our home in Australia with the local producers of rural Mexico.

I am confident in our products opening the Australian pallet to a higher quality of agave spirits. We hope you enjoy.
