At The Friendly Mexican, our mission is to honour the rich heritage of traditional mezcal and showcase the pinnacle of agave spirits. 

In an era marked by a thriving mezcal and tequila phenomenon, many producers face destruction due to over commercialization, compelled to seek foreign investment that often escalates the pressure for greater output. The meticulous crafting of a batch of agave spirits involves countless hours, sometimes spanning decades, as the key ingredient matures. This scarcity results in a profoundly limited yield, driving once-respected producers to compromise, resorting to diluting their product with significantly cheaper grain alcohol and artificial additives, all in the pursuit of meeting escalating demand. The very passion that has long defined their craft is compromised, as they are coerced into unfathomable hours.

Just over a decade ago, mezcal production languished at an all-time low, forcing the offspring of mezcal families to abandon their ancestral towns in pursuit of economic opportunities and a more stable income. This separation severed the bonds of families in communities where kinship is the cornerstone. The recent resurgence has facilitated family reunions, allowing the continuation of age-old traditions that enshroud this cherished spirit.

Our foremost objective is to champion authentic mezcal production and safeguard the vibrant culture that thrives within these communities, bridging the present with a past that is still remarkably alive.

Our quest was resolute: to unveil to you a selection of exceptional mezcals—rarities that continue to be crafted with the unerring devotion and reverence that has spanned centuries.
